Determination of surface acidity in Zeolites and other materials with a high specific surface area
Summary
Zeolites are crystalline materials made of hydrated aluminosilicate minerals and can be natural or synthetic. The interlinked microporous structure makes them ideal for several kinds of applications in many industries. Surface acidity is an important property to measure especially when these materials are used as catalysts, such as during the petrochemical refining process. This Application Note outlines the determination of total acidic active surface sites in zeolites with thermometric titration.
