Penicillin G potassium is an antibiotic medication that treats severe infections. It is a moderately hygroscopic white crystalline powder. Therefore, its water content should be measured accurately before preparing dosage for treatment purposes. This Application Note describes the water content determination in penicillin by using volumetric Karl Fischer titration. Unwanted side reactions can be avoided by using special solvent mixtures.
