- AN-CIC-013AN-CIC-013Analysis of certified liquefied gas using Metrohm Combustion IC
This Application Note looks at the determination of fluorine and sulfur in certified liquefied gas using Metrohm Combustion IC. Sequential determinations proceed in parallel to a certain extent: While the absorption solution of a sample that has already been combusted is being analyzed with IC, the combustion of the next sample is already underway.Keyword: pyrohydrolysis
- AN-CIC-027AN-CIC-027Halogens in polymer by Combustion Ion Chromatography
Polymer materials that are used for building and decoration purposes need to be flame resistant. To reach the required level of resistance flame-retardants are added to the plain polymer. Flame-retardants are often haloorganic compounds. The use of such components and the respective concentration of introduced halogens can be determined by Combustion IC. The recovery over the full system is tested with acertified reference material (CRM).
- AN-CIC-006AN-CIC-006Recovery rates of chloride, bromide and sulfate in certified reference materials using Metrohm Combustion Ion Chromatography
Combustion Ion Chromatography combines pro-hydrolytic sample combustion and the absorption of emerging combustion gases in an oxidizing, aqueous solution that is then channeled to an ion chromatograph for the analysis of halogenides and sulfur (as sulfate). The combustion and analysis of the certified reference materials (ZRM) makes clear the reliability of Metrohm Combustion Ion Chromatography.Keyword: pyrohydrolysis

- AN-NIR-037AN-NIR-037Determination of polymorphous sulfathiazoles by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)
Sulfathiazoles are sulfonamides with antibiotic effect that occur in various polymorphous forms and that are often used in veterinary medicine. This Application Note shows the differentiation between commercial and sulfathiazole form I using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) with the help of the overtone frequencies of N-H stretching vibration. Form I is the least stable polymorphous form. Crystallization and polymorphism must be monitored as part of quality controls. In this, NIRS is considerably more rapid and more reliable than conventional laboratory methods.
- AN-NIR-001AN-NIR-001Determination of active ingredients in solid (pharmaceutical) dosage forms utilizing solid-state standard additions
Two of the leading pain remedies, aspirin and acetaminophen, are compared with generic samples for content uniformity testing using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). The method of standard addition is used for quantification. To reduce most of the effects that stem from particle size and packing differences, second derivative spectra are used.
- AN-NIR-063Content uniformity test of pharmaceutical solid dosage forms using NIR spectroscopy
Uniformity of dosage units must be tested for QC purposes in the pharma industry. NIRS gives results in seconds along with the quantification of APIs and excipients.

Metrosep A Supp 19 - 100/4.0Outstanding separation properties and high-capacity – these are the things which clearly distinguish the Metrosep A Supp 19 product family from the rest of the column portfolio. It features best peak symmetries and selectivities as well as high thermal, mechanical and chemical stability, which makes it extremely robust and stable in the presence of higher flow rates and pressures. The shortest anion separation column of the Metrosep A Supp 19 product family is the 100 mm version – outstandingly suitable for simple applications that require rapid and robust analytics. With elevated flow, reliable determination of the standard anions is possible in less than 7 minutes. Even at these higher flow rates, the separation between fluoride and the injection peak is guaranteed. Short elution times permit a high sample throughput, which is particularly important for contract laboratories and in routine analysis. A further application area of the Metrosep A Supp 19 - 100/4.0 is the determination of analytes which usually have very late elution, e.g. perchlorate or citrate. Due to high flow rates and strong eluents, even analytes such as these can be determined in a very short time, thus rendering the entire analysis time-saving and efficient.

Metrosep A Supp 19 Guard/4.0The Metrosep A Supp 19 Guard/4.0 reliably protects the anion separation columns of the Metrosep A Supp 19 product family against contaminations from the sample or eluent and thus prolong their service life significantly. The guard columns and separation columns of the Metrosep A Supp 19 product family are made of PEEK and filled with the same material. This ensures that the chromatographic separating efficiency is not restricted in any way. The "On Column Guard System" makes it possible to screw the guard column onto the anion separation column directly and conveniently. The economical price and simple handling make the Metrosep A Supp 19 Guard/4.0 the ideal protection for the separation column.
6.1006.550
Metrosep A Supp 5 - 50/4.0The Metrosep A Supp 5 - 50/4.0 separates the seven standard anions in less than 6 minutes. Even fluoride is still separated from the injection peak and can be integrated perfectly. Like all columns in the A Supp 5 product range, the column based on a polyvinyl alcohol polymer is characterized by high plate numbers and therefore by outstanding separating efficiency. The Metrosep A Supp 5 - 50/4.0 is the column of choice when simple separation tasks need to be solved in a short time – and that without having to sacrifice very low limits of detection.
6.1006.510
